Memories of Old Empty Memories of Old

Post by Zerix Sat Apr 17, 2010 5:06 pm

A story that took me as I typed to come up with Razz - But in any case, it's not about WoW, but about a story I've designed in my brain while being bored in school. Certain parts you will most likely need more detail which in a Prequel I make after Part II or Part III, it will explain the whole Lore behind this. Part II will be released soon, if you guys like it that is. (I color coded it for easy read, I dunno, it seems easier that way. If you don't like I'll change it back to regular black text)

“Oy! – you look the type that’s good at getting stuff done.” The man’s voice peaked the stranger’s attention. “What kind of work are we talking about?” Visunaros immediately replied. “I am Derek Throttle, a man of business and politics.” Visunaros eventually lost interest as the man continued on until he mentioned of a specific task. “I need you to kill a certain someone who’s interfering on the matter.” Derek stopped then looked around to make sure no one was about and around. “Who’s the target and what’s the pay? I have standards you know.” Visunaros then took a parchment of paper and wrote down information that Derek had quickly stated. Although Visunaros didn’t care about almost all the information, he wrote it down anyway. As Derek left, Visunaros prepared for the up-coming task he had to perform. He went to an old vigil which stood tall and broad for almost 100 years ever since the War of Inferno. Visunaros was considered a dangerous figure, but people never saw him anyway. He was stealthy and evasive. Adventurers only caught glimpses of him while he snuck around kingdoms. Although he plunders abandoned keeps and vigils, he once shattered a kingdom with him and a band of thieves. Though it is rather odd that a knight has such skill with knives and poisons he was renown for the rather scarring war amongst the Cycerions.

Cycerions were tall people with elegant forms and rather odd taste in certain consumptions of food and drinks. They could drink poisons and live, although overdoses are similar to over consumptions of heavy alcohol (excluding dwarves). Visunaros led a war against the Cycerions after a bitter hatred when his family was killed by Cycerions. Although many humans also had such hatred for this race they agreed to leave them be. Visunaros had other plans and destroyed many different tribes and cities containing these huge, but slim people. It was quite rare for a Cycerion to be overweight for most of their diet contained of fruits, berries, etc. Visunaros, at the vigil, picked up a few items such as bandages, healing warps, swords, and armor. He crafted a bow which was one of his favorite hobbies. That, and assassinating people for certain rewards such as Kog and Cera (currency). Certain crystals were also used as currency which he gracefully accepted as well. He sweat, and struggled while stringing this bow for it was being crafted from fine diamonds and bloodstones to give it magical enhancements.

Magic was influenced by stones and runes, usually the color represented its element. However, some people were born with essences of runes/stones inside them. This causes extra veins to spread out inside them to spring out magic from their finger tips. People looked towards magic as godlike, people with this power were looked upon with higher dignity. Many ended up to be Kings and Queens such as Ashriel and Hael Usurin.

Visunaros quickly finished and made haste on the way to his target which he more than readily prepared for. He quickly cloaked himself with a long, sleek, black cape. He then raised his bow while on the roof top, getting a nice, steady view of his victim. The target was as Derek described, long hair and blonde – white sturdy looking person with royal looking clothing. Though Visunaros’s keen sense and hawk eyes spotted him like a green bead in a red jar, it was not going to be easy getting the clear shot. He would have to launch an arrow that was strong enough to penetrate both a thick layer of granite, and glass that was also hard incase of attempts of assassination which in this case proved to be a difficult obstacle for the assassin. He moved to an angle where he could just deal with the glass instead of both the wall and glass. Sweat gleaming from his face, he lifted his bow and quickly took a glimpse at the target then grabbed his arrow with a thick shaft made of the strongest steel and diamond wrapping.

He let go of the arrow as it quickly impaled the target but the target tried catching the arrow which startled him the most. The blonde person then waved to his men in a sign of a launched attack. The gates quickly came down to block his exits, he grabbed a rune with a grey lettering on it which he put on his arrow and used to blow up the gate blocking his easy escape. The exploding rune, however, back fired for the gates caved in and collapsed on him. As Visunaros came to a silent knock-out, falling down ever so slowly, he saw the man that assigned him to the mission – it was a set up from the start.

“Hey! Wake up, pig!” a voice from close by was heard through the bars of a cold prison pressing up against his back as his bear back lays on them. He turned to the direction of the voice as a bowl was passed through the entrance of the prison door. He looked around knowing it was a dungeon seeing the dried up blood, yellowish looking skeletons that were cracked years, upon years. Visunaros took the food and ate with haste for he knew he had to escape even if it may be impossible to. He knew he would have to escape in time for he had limited supplies. As guards piled food and drinks, he gathered them for days and days – also carving the skulls and bones he saw for weapons and a lock of hair was hardened to be used as a bow string. He hid the items into small pockets in the stone walls directly behind him.

One morning, or at least it looked like morning when he saw a shed of light from the door that was opening – he noticed the man who he was sent to assassinate until he was betrayed by Derek, the employer. The man pulled down his hood and Visunaros could scarcely believe his eyes when he saw that the person who he thought was a man was really a woman and a woman he knew from childhood. He also noticed a man behind his childhood friend, it was Derek who had shackles on both his hands and feet and he knew he wasn’t betrayed but that Derek was caught and he had to spill out the information. “You? An assassin? – Never figured you the type but then again you never had much of a personality.” She opened the door to the prison and gave Visunaros his shirt and equipment he had. “The rest are upstairs in the Barracks, nice attempt I have to admit, you almost killed a friend because of a pesky enemy of mine.” She pushed Derek out in front and impaled him slowly through his heart. “One less problem on my part, you’re also lucky for if I didn’t get any more information such as your name, I probably would have had you killed without even seeing your death for I am a very busy woman.” “So you are Rivia, aren’t you?” Visunaros still in shock, simply watched as Rivia answered questions that only she would know. “So is that all, or do you need physical evidence?” Rivia teased. “I dunno, maybe…” Visunaros replied with a wink and a smile. Both of them laughed and started walking up toward her Quarters in the Royal Palace across from the dungeon.

Rivia was a girl he knew as Princess Xenos, a rich and popular family that was the only non-magic family to rule and take apart in politics even more so than mages. Even though Visunaros was just a common person, he dared to play with her while her family tend to other businesses. It was considered extremely wrong for a person with royal status to be involved with common people. Visunaros still took this risk, which he learned most of his stealth from at this age, keeping steady to the shadows when her parents returned. Then he popped out when her parents went to sleep or out again. When she asked why he kept her company he simply replied “I have no occupation, and neither do you – you need a friend or at least someone to keep you occupied while you wait for your parents.” “Though you love them so, they love you less if they keep tending to bases of operations for our so called nation.” One day, Visunaros was caught red handed by her parents when they were talking in her room. Her parents merely shrieked in shock though they were not surprised for they did not know right away to who he was. When they did find out that he was of common folk, Visunaros only left a note for both Rivia and her parents that he would never return if it was that much of a bothersome, though he did leave a side note that if things were different he would wish to wed Rivia. Although Visunaros, now, had different feelings from the things he’s been through, he still felt a regret of leaving her so sudden. He also felt fragments of love and bits of confusion in his heart.

When they reached Rivia’s Quarters in the palace, she told Visunaros to wait by the door. Visunaros peeked through the door and saw a glance of Rivia stripping and putting on casual clothing for the day. “What happened to your stealth?” Rivia said while looking through the crack of the door he was looking through. Visunaros quickly looked away and simply denied and ignored every statement she made. “What are you getting changed for anyway?” Visunaros finally started talking after the long period of silence. “Well, I do like to get comfortable even in the state of royalty – we aren’t all boring people with topics of politics only.” – “Although my father was a shapeless man like that, I intend to be the person he could never be.”

They both then moved from her Quarters to another Quarter with lots of food, drinks, and other types of sustenance. As they both sat down they began to have a conversation that engaged them to tell them what they missed and what happened after each of them had to part ways. Though each shared, and exchanged ideas and topics, Visunaros still felt an urge of dangerous wavering down his spine. “Derek…does he have more connections?” Visunaros ended the personal topic to a more political problem for her. “Really? – I thought you would stay away from this.” She sighed and gave a brief description of the topic. “Derek was part of a group known as Forbidden, though they have little people, they people they hire are very experienced mercenaries and they have quite a bit of money. – which is probably how they got you.” She gave a weird look and Visunaros already picked up her meaning. “Yeah, I need money you know – I’m not a princess that receives obedience, riches, and who also owns a large sum of land.” Though Rivia gave a snarl and a look of discontent, she slid a rather heavy bag filled with riches Visunaros was never used to seeing. “Well, mission accomplished. – Now, get on out of here, I have business to attend to.” She got up and walked away back towards the Royal Imperial Site (another type of Quarters – next to her own.) Visunaros stood there, opening the sac that contained more than he imagined. Though he seemed reluctant on the offer he needed it even though it seemed to pierce his pride which he had more than what it was worth.

He went back to old cities such as Emazor and Garal to complete unfinished deeds and payments. Though Visunaros dealt with things of illegal business, no one seemed to care even though no one stuck their noses in ordeals that included activities that seemed to be wrong. The Soldiers of Divine, or Crusaders, were more into criminal activity and wronging in public places or even underground operations. Even though they served the church more than the Dawn of Sage, which explained the use of magic and its binding with hidden power for true justice. Though most were just formal politics to the royal world, it effected more than just government, society, and a future as a whole. King Ashriel who was very well-known as both a King and a powerful mage. Though of course, Ashriel was born from a rich family but married a rather lower class of mages which is very rare. He fell in love with a woman with many secrets but a rare toleration to magic even though she was a regular human being. Magic can’t flow through her unless she touches certain objects that contain heavy elements of things and or magic from a living mage. Though many people say the marriage happened out of luck or Ashriel had use for the girl, people still looked down on it because of simplicity of her life style. They say Ashriel had many children, but a lot of them died when the Siege of Kuros (main city) occurred. Though Ashriel didn’t seem surprised or even care, for that matter, though Hael, on the other hand, was extremely upset by this and locked herself in the ruins of the empire they had. Ashriel convinced Hael that they were a lost cause but they served them well for the Empire did not fall and magic still rules today. Hael still was disoriented by the loss, but she soon grew out of it as all grievers do.

But, on the task ahead, Visunaros then headed the main city, the Empire Kuros. He had heeds of money, and wanted to make sure they were in safe keeping. He bought a vast estate with the money that was given to him by his childhood friend, Rivia - toward the edge of the city/empire for easy coming and going. Visunaros checked to make sure there were no entrances he didn’t know about and windows that he couldn’t see. Though the huge house was in great condition, it still needed to be altered in order to fit his requirements. Later that day, guards from the Royal Keep walked towards Visunaros’s house that he was in the process of fixing up for himself. “I have a request that you see the King.” Said the messenger as the guards made a single file line and split into two separate ones, waiting to escort Visunaros. “On what account?” Visunaros replied with a rather furious look, but also curious. “That, you will find out when you reach the King. – I can’t say anything futher.” The messenger then wrapped up the piece of parchment which seemed to have information about Visunaros. He noticed that the messenger was wrapping it up rather quickly and quietly while Visunaros stared at him. “Fine, lead the way.” Visunaros finally decided to see what was going on that seemed to important. He thought that he was getting in trouble for certain deeds he did but at the same time he doubted it, for those were Black-Market deals. Politicians have certain places they won’t touch, that’s one of them.

As Visunaros followed, he noticed the guards were being formal, as if guarding a valuable person. Although this made him calmer, it also made him anxious. As they reach the heart of the Empire, the bridge that stretches across the city was being let down for them. This bridge was one of the few architectural designs that brought them into a huge Golden Age. It stretched across many lands and had many different mechanisms that could be opened for each separate part of the bridge to lift or close.

“We are here, sir.” As the guards said at once, Visunaros advanced as the guards dispersed. The messenger stayed guided Visunaros through the humongous halls, pass many chambers that seemed to be an endless abyss. They reaches one chamber that seemed to gleam and shine off of mirrors that surrounded it, it was a great defensive system. The mirrors disorient and confuse the person so he will be dazed. The mirrors also peak into the room giving the person inside a look to see what was inside. But no man could pick this up to easily, the mirrors were hidden and only the gleams in certain angles could point out the obvious mirrors.

When they reached the outside doors, the messenger then departed. Visunaros took a desperate breath and knocked on the door. “No need to knock, your coming was foretold. – I sent for you, no?” the faint voice grew louder as he neared the door to give him a welcome. “Ah, welcome my dear friend, I am Ashriel Usurin, most know me as the King.” Ashriel gave a brief smile and a glance at Visunaros as he walked back toward his rather large table. “Politics, I never really grew into it. – Hael was more into this sort of thing.” Ashriel, from the table, then pulled out a chess set and offered Visunaros a seat. “Please, do be as kind to occupy me with a game.” “What is this?” Visunaros abruptly replied. “Why have you summoned me? I have things to do you know, you are not the only man with business to attend to.” “I take that as a challenge, now sit down.” Ashriel continued on – “I have a more compromising situation.” Ashriel grabbed a huge bag of Kogs and crystals which he knew would get to Visunaros’s attention. “If you play me in chess and win, I will reward you with this vast amount of Kog.” Ashriel gave a sigh of disbelief as he stated this, but he then stated the next statement with great pleasure. “If I win, I will reveal to you what happened to your parents and after that you will serve me for a time being.” Visunaros shuddered but took up the challenge for he was very curious to what might have happened to his parents.

Visunaros put up a good challenge, as he got the King in multiple checks, but he knew his strategy and what was up and quickly went around and flanked Visunaros’s pieces. “Checkmate…” Visunaros called but to Ashriel’s stubbornness he saw a fault to his surrounding and he escaped through a crack in Visunaros’s pieces. “I believe, it’s my turn to call Check…mate.” Visunaros couldn’t believe his eyes but admitted to defeat.”Now you tell me what happened…” “With pleasure…” Ashriel gave a crooked smile and a twisted laugh as he told the truth. “Your family was a foster family as you know…they never gave birth to you but acted as your true family and never told you the truth.” “You lie-…” Ashriel immediately cut him off as he stated a shocking statement. “Your true family is Hael and I…you were lost in the Siege of Kuros.” “When we found this out, we sought you out but it was rather hard to find you, you never settled down until now.” “Your family was killed by Cycerion but the people who ordered them to attack was us, we knew your reaction to love and loss would be great and your magic would intercept their attacks.” “However, you left early because your parents foolishly, but understandably sent you away to get you away from harm.” Ashriel finished but looked disturbed when he saw Visunaros’s face. He threw down the table in great rage and drew a dagger from his pocket and lunged at Ashriel. Ashriel blinked and Visunaros was instantly pushed back. “I’ll never serve you!” Visunaros then tried drinking a poison, in suicide but Ashriel merely broke the bottle and dissolved the poison. Visunaros glowed a faint color, which Ashriel smiled and laughed manically at his surprise. Visunaros quickly grabbed Ashriel and then blinked as he did and pushed Ashriel back. Visunaros had his mother’s unique absorption. But Ashriel anticipated his anger and merely led him into a room that was anti-magic proof. “Now you serve us, your magic will be locked away until your time has come – no one will remember you until that time has arrived, but remember this, you are my son.” The doors shut and as does this part of the tale.
